* wounded in action

Details of all men killed
whilst serving their country
can be viewed on the
Commonwealth War Graves Commission Website
(opens in a new window)

The Stoneferry Memorial . .
was mounted on the Bandstand, until the 1930's, then moved to St Saviour's Church, together with that of Wilmington. Subjected to vandalism, it was moved inside St Saviour's in the early 1950's.
When that church was demolished, the memorials were taken to Sutton. They were released to the Museums Service in c.1996 for a special exhibition, and are now (2002) in the care of the Hull Maritime Museum.

NB: The Bandstand was where the large roundabout
is now, at the bottom of Leads Road.

The Civilian War Dead Index for WW II
(also opens in a new window)
The above link takes you to another website
and pages that list all the
civilian wartime casualties of enemy action
in Northumberland, Durham and Yorkshire.
You'll have no difficulty in spotting the Hull ones . .
sadly, they are easily the more numerous.

About a dozen War Graves from both
wars are within Sutton churchyard itself,
mainly of men from other parts of the UK,
and one of an RAF pilot
from Cooma, NSW, Australia.

"Their names liveth for evermore . . ."
