Assorted photos of Sutton on Hull Railway Station
.

THESE IMAGES ARE PRESENTED HERE
by kind permission of the
Joint North Eastern Railway Association - Ken Hoole Study Centre Collection
at the Darlington Railway Centre and Museum
and the good offices of Ken Mell.
they are also strictly copyright.

A shame we previously had to mark these pics so heavily, as well as reduce the size greatly.
But we did make it clear on this page they are not here for others to claim as their own.
They are presented again, with less obtrusive copyright labels
in the hope that this is respected.

The new Cravens Diesel Multiple Unit at Sutton on Hull, Nov 1957.
from Ken's own collection, though he tells me he didn't take it, one of the Sutton porters did with Ken's own camera.
We have the first diesel railcar to be delivered to Hull in 1957 on its first trial on the Hornsea line
and returning through Sutton station on its way back to Hull.
Acknowledgements and to Ken Mell.

A rare snow scene of Sutton station, and in the snow.
Memories for many here of setting off to work or school on dark winter mornings,
or perhaps returning home later on the last train after a night out.
Again, it is copyright, this time to the Len Suddaby Collection

copyright .. Tony Smith Collection
One extra image, from Tony Smith this time. For the railway officionados and all small boys
who spent time loitering around here and pestering the signalman. Poor chap.
Again, it is copyright, same details as above.

And finally, the first view again . . . with a bit of magical digital treatment.
It opens in a new window without this side menu, and in Firefox, centred with a black background.
Again, it is copyright, same details as above.

It was through the good offices of Ken Mell, former Sutton resident and pupil of our Old School,
chorister at St James' Church, that we have acquired permission to display these
excellent historic photographs of the greatly missed railway link between Hull and Hornsea.
I would like to thank Ken publically for making them available to us.
