Assorted photos of old archives

THESE ARE IMAGES PREVIOUSLY SHOWN ON THE MUSEUM OR HOME PAGE
and are archived here for future reference.

Not necessarily of Sutton, could be Hull or the wider EY area.
They're mysteries, and still need someone to ID them
and put names to faces.

they are also strictly copyright.

Empty place holders are for future inclusions in this archive

Enjoy !

We now have a result for the haberdashery shop lady on the left,

She was Minnie Richardson, b.1895, whose haberdashery shop was 21 Lowgate.
Minnie's daughter was born in 1923, and married Alan Fairbank
and they eventually lived in Jessamine Cottage, almost opposite 21 Lowgate.

We do know the name of the lady on the right in the post office .... but can any of you tell us more ... ?
This was the 'old post office', where the pillar box is still, opposite the church.
My, that's going back a bit now!

1953 Valentine's Day Dance, Sutton village hall
The 1953 VALENTINE'S DAY DANCE
We do have a lot of names for this remarkable photo. There are 39 young people of Sutton and the surrounding district here. Remarkable if only for the sheer joy shown here. All these lads and lasses were smiling, laughing, one girl even suppressing a gleeful giggle. Happy days indeed. I'm sure the list of names below will in time fill out.
We have Tony Broughton and Kathy Borrill (formerly Smith) to thank for the information so far.
Any spelling errors are apologised for in advance, please advise us if you spot any.
We do like to get it right.

They're numbered, from the left, and rows by letter, Back, Middle, Front, so B3, M1 or F6, etc.

B3: John Whisker | B4: Barry Turnbull | B10: Michael Edwards | B11: Ian McGuiness
M1: Brian Grantham | M17 (last): Michael Noble
F5: Gwen Calvert | F6: Tony Robinson | F7: Kathleen Smith | F8: Terrence Roberts | F10: Clive Grindell | F11: Gordon Smith
