Sutton
founded in 1115 and 1349 respectively
St Peter's at Wawne was the senior church
and St James' only a 'daughter chapel',
until 1349 when St James' was fully consecrated in its own right.
Prior to 1349, all marriages and burials had to be at St Peter's.
It was a long walk for Sutton folk.
